Those coming to visit our wineries in Toscana find great wines, pleasant surprises and some new good friends.
Montalcino Casato Prime Donne
On the road which from Montalcino takes to Siena, 5 km out of the village and after 2km of dirt track, one finds this historic building.
The “Casato Prime Donne” winery is full of barrels of Brunello and on the walls there are frescoes regarding the history of Montalcino. A story a thousand years long that tells of how a tree gave the name to the village, why the inhabitants are called “beccamorti” –gravediggers, and how the Madonna del Soccorso is their patron Saint, but most of how a village of leather makers became the wine capital it is today.
Trequanda Fattoria del Colle
18 km form the Val di Chiana exit of the A1 Motorway following the directions for Montalcino, after having passed by the villages of Sinalunga and Trequanda and after following the estate signposts for about 2 km one reaches Fattoria del Colle.
This estate cultivates 160 hectares of crops, 6,5 hectares of olive grove and 23 hectares of vines. The vineyards produce the grapes for Chianti Superiore (Sangiovese and Canaiolo), for the Leone Rosso (Sangiovese and Merlot) and for the Cenerentola (Sangiovese and Foglia Tonda). The winery covers four floors. It begins with a medieval hermitage; it crosses the underground of the sixteenth century villa and then rises up until the loft where the Vin Santo is made. The effect is very suggestive, due also to the presence of objects from the local farming tradition. In the vinification area, on the contrary, all is modern: the stainless steel vats , the computer controlled equipment, a technological world where it is easy to understand how wine is made, and where at the same time it is possible to enjoy the spectacular panorama of the Crete Senesi and in the background that of Montalcino and Monte Amiata.
Donatella Cinelli Colombini’s home, where there is a fireplace so large you can walk in it, the coat of arms hall, and the bedroom built for the Grand Duke of Tuscany and his lover Isabella, are all part of the tour given to guests upon request, together with the bakers room and chapel dating back to 1592.
